Bike Cassette Locking Tool for 12 mm Pin

The FR-5.2GT is designed specifically for use when removing and installing cassette lock rings from thru axle hubs. It fits 12 spline 23.4mm diameter tool fittings - the most common tool fitting found on 7-12 speed bicycle cassette lockrings, including many models made by Shimano, SRAM, SunRace, SunTour, Chris King and others. The tool also fits Shimano disc brake lockrings with 12 internal splines.

The FR-5.2GT features a thin wall construction that allows use without removal of cones and locknuts. It has a 12mm guide pin to stabilize the tool when used with thru-axle hubs. The 1" hexagonal base can be used in conjunction with a socket, wrench, or bench vise. The tool is made of heat treated alloy steel construction for a lifetime of use.

To determine the type of rear sprocket system you have, find the tool fitting on the sprocket set and spin the sprockets backwards. If the fitting spins with the cogs, it is a cassette system. If the tool fitting does not spin with the cogs, it is a freewheel system. If you have a multi-speed cassette, you need one of two tools - the BBT-5/FR-11 if the cassette, derailleur, or shifter are labeled with Campagnolo, or a tool from the FR-5.2 line if not.

In addition to the correct tool, you will also need a method of driving it (such as an adjustable wrench or 1" socket) as well as a chain whip to hold the cassette in place as you remove the lockring. Park Tool makes a full line of chain whips and wrenches for this purpose.
